Women’s Refuge have asked the NZAAW to spread the word about their new project which will capture memories of all involved since their beginning as an organisation. The name of this Women’s Refuge project is ‘Her Story’. The NZAAW has supported Women’s Refuge, mainly through our groups inviting speakers and/or collecting practical donations such as toiletries and hygiene products. It is probable that AAW members have worked for Women’s Refuge as staff or in a voluntary capacity. Therefore, please spread the word of this initiative which seeks to capture the memories of past staff and volunteers: Women's Refuge logoWomen’s Refuge wrote: ‘Women’s Refuge is starting a project to record our ‘her-story’ (history). We are looking to gather the stories of wāhine who have been involved with Refuge as staff, kaimahi, or volunteers. We are specifically looking for expressions of interest or recommendations of wāhine involved from the very beginning of Refuge, or in our early days, from 1970 – 1990. Women's Refuge poster ‘Given the NZAAW’s involvement with social issues and possible connection with women involved as early workers/volunteers at Women’s Refuge we hope to make contact with anyone that would be interested in speaking with us. We would appreciate expressions of interest before September as that is when we hope to start interviewing past workers and collating their memories. If confidentiality is required that will be respected.
